Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Chimney Cleaning Before & After in Dallas, TX
Photographs tell the truth faster than any sales pitch. The images below show real chimney conditions we’ve encountered across Dallas, from Lakewood to Preston Hollow, and what they looked like after our technicians finished. Some of these jobs were straightforward sweeps. Others revealed problems the homeowners couldn’t see from the living room. Either way, you’ll see the difference between what a chimney looks like when it’s neglected and what it looks like when it’s done right.

Heavy Creosote Removal in a Lake Highlands Fireplace
Before
AfterThe homeowners had burned unseasoned oak for two winters and noticed a smell like hot asphalt every time they lit a fire. Creosote, the tar-like residue that condenses from wood smoke, had built up to nearly a quarter inch in places. That’s the exact condition that causes chimney fires. Our sweep removed the deposits with rotary rods and brushes sized to their flue, then ran a camera inspection to confirm nothing was left behind. The after photo shows clean firebrick and a flue that drafts the way it should.
Third-Stage Creosote Remediation in a Bishop Arts Bungalow
Before
AfterThis 1920s bungalow had a chimney that hadn’t been swept in at least a decade. The creosote had progressed to what chimney professionals call third-stage: it had hardened into a shiny, tar-like glaze that standard brushes won’t remove. We applied a chemical treatment to break down the glaze, then used a rotary chain system to clear the flue without damaging the old masonry. The homeowner told us afterward that the fireplace drew better than it had in the ten years they’d owned the house. That’s what happens when air can actually move through the flue.
Smoky Fireplace Corrected in a North Dallas Ranch House
Before
AfterThese homeowners called us because every fire filled their living room with smoke, even with the damper fully open. The culprit was a combination of bird nesting material near the top of the flue and enough soot buildup to narrow the draft opening by about forty percent. We removed the nesting debris, swept the full length of the flue, and verified the draft with a smoke test before we left. The after photo shows the firebox after a test fire burned clean. No smoke in the room, no stains on the mantel.
Gas Fireplace Cleaning and Log Restoration in an Uptown Condo

Gas fireplaces collect soot too, especially when the burner ports get clogged and the flame burns yellow instead of blue. This Uptown condo’s fireplace had ceramic logs that were blackened with carbon and a glass front you could barely see through. We disassembled the log set, cleaned each piece by hand, cleared the burner ports, and cleaned the glass with a non-abrasive cleaner made for fireplace glass. We also corrected the air shutter so the flame burned clean again. The homeowner said it looked like a new fireplace.
Odor Source Found and Eliminated in an Oak Cliff Chimney

This call started as a complaint about a musty smell that got worse after rain. The problem: water was entering through a cracked chimney crown, soaking the soot and creosote at the smoke shelf, and pushing that smell into the house every time the air conditioner ran. We swept the flue, cleaned the smoke shelf thoroughly, and the after photo shows what a dry smoke shelf should look like. We also recommended sealing the crown to stop the water entry. The smell was gone within a day of the cleaning.
Chimney Inspection Reveals Hidden Flue Damage in a Preston Hollow Home

Not every transformation is about sweeping. This Preston Hollow homeowner booked a Level 2 inspection before buying the house, and our camera found a cracked flue tile about twelve feet up, a condition that would have vented hot gases into the chimney chase. We showed them the footage on the spot, walked them through what it meant, and gave them a written report with still images and a repair plan. They used it to negotiate the purchase price. The after image is the photo report itself, the proof you need when the question is whether a chimney is safe, not just clean.
